Description

DIRECTIONS: Park your car at the end of Somers Road. Look for a concrete drain going into the bush at the very end of the street. Enter there and follow the faint track for about 80m. The track winds gently downhill. (mum1822)

The structure is a 6m deep by 2m in diameter pit cut into the sandstone cliff at the end of Somers Street, Lawson. The hole is regarded by many as a silo that serviced what was then grazing land at the base some say it was for feisty convicts.

Additional Information

Blue Mountains Local Studies support the idea of a Silo: “The capacity of the shaft may be calculated to be about 16 tonnes of grain or ensilage".
